World Champion Elvis Impersonator 2012

Rotherfield United Football Club Public Meeting

The club will be holding a public meeting on Monday 27th February at 19.30 in Sonning Common Village Hall to present and discuss its plan for Bishopswood Sports Ground.

The World Women’s Day of Prayer

The women of Malaysia have prepared the service and their theme is “Let Justice Prevail”.  Do come and join us at 14.00-15.00. Our speaker will be Ann Pawson who is Indian Malaysian and lives locally. Refreshments will be available after the service and assistance with travel can be arranged.

Wesley Methodist Church
Parenthesis – Concert

Parenthesis are celebrating their 20th anniversary by holding a special concert to include Haydn's Imperial "Nelson" Mass and 12 of their favourite songs performed over the years. The concert will begin at 19.30 at Wesley Methodist Church, Queens Road, Reading RG1 4BW. Tickets £10 each (under 18's are free). Box office; Liz Harrison 0118 954 6833.

Annual Litter Blitz

The Annual Parish Litter Blitz will start at 10.00. This is an opportunity for everyone to get involved to help keep our village tidy.  Hi-Viz jackets and plastic sacks will be available from a Parish Councillor at - Stoke Row Road / Gallowstree Common junction, outside Peppard School on the Top Common or at the Unicorn public house.

Bicycle Sale

If you have bikes to sell or wish to buy, we shall be holding a second hand bike sale in the playground from 1-3pm. There is no charge for this all sellers must just stay with their bikes, decide what they wish to sell each bike for and take away unsold bikes at the end.

Christ the King, Sonning Common
Lent Lunch

 

Come along on Monday 19th March at 13.00 to Christ The King, Sedgewell Road, Sonning Common and join us for bread and homemade vegetable soup, fruit, tea and coffee. You will be asked to give a donation to Feed The Children (UK). Just give Sue Nickson a call to tell her know you will be coming on 0118 972 4520.  You will be very welcome!

Community Plan Public Forum

We are holding a public forum to discuss the issues being addressed by the working parties who volunteered to assist those areas of need identified in the Community survey.  Come along at 19.30.

Mizuno Half Marathon

The Nettlebed Hospice would like to invite you to pull on your running shoes and take up a challenge by signing-up for this event is set to attract around 18,000 participants.

Each year, Sue Ryder cares for their runners every step of the way, providing them with advice and support, from sign-up to finish line celebrations.  What’s more, with every step, runners will be helping us care for local people living with life-limiting illnesses including multiple sclerosis and cancer.  Running for Sue Ryder is a fantastic way to get fit and feel exhilarated and it’s hard to beat that feeling of achievement of crossing the finishing line.

Open Day

On Your Bike

Great Fun For All The Family   Join us at 10.30am for the 6th annual friendly family charity bike ride through the Chiltern countryside. Choose from 6, 12 and 20 mile marshalled routes or a supervised playground cycle.

And new for this Olympic year: On Your Feet - 2 treasure hunts (1 and 3 miles) around Sonning Common Village.Register for either or both online at www.onyourbikesonningcommon.co.uk Ride entries are £5 pp in advance or £7 pp on the day. Walk entries are £3 pp (or half price if you are also entering the bike ride).

All those entering the bike ride before Thursday March 29th will be entered into a free prize draw to win a bike donated by AW Cycles, Caversham.

Hadrian’s Wall
Sue Ryder Charity Challenge

 

Join us on a 25 mile trek across the best of Hadrian’s Wall. Taking in the highlights, the fully guided, supported route passes through some of Northern England’s most beautiful scenery and enjoys some of the finest and best preserved sections of the wall.

Carlings Orchard
Beating the Bounds

Parishioners, their families and friends are invited to take part in the annual Beating the Bounds starting at 12.00. The walk will be about 5 miles long covering the West and North boundaries of the Parish. Starting (and finishing !) at Carlings Orchard, Stoke Row Road, the walk will take about 1.5 hours. Thursday 11th – Saturday 20th October
Great Wall of China
Sue Ryder Charity Challenge

 

This trek is a true challenge: it involves six consecutive days' walking on the wall. Each day you will trek for between 5-8 hours along winding pathways in amongst beautiful mountains and breathtaking ravines, interspersed with crumbling watchtowers.
