Dear Mr Treglown,
re: Peppard War Memorial Hall
It was so nice to read your last Peppard News. It brought back many happy memories for me.
In December 1973 my husband and I used the Hall for my son’s ‘21st Birthday’ and in March 1975 we hired the Hall again for a daughter’s wedding. At this time we didn’t have what we called a proper village hall but when another daughter married we had a new village hall (Sonning Common) and it was the first wedding reception held there.
Also reading about Molly Lindlaw’s mother (Mrs Beeton) brought more memories as when I was expecting my first baby (Christmas 1951) she made us a lovely Christmas cake. My baby arrived 22nd December and that cake was so lovely sitting in the middle of our table. You have to realise that food rationing was still on then and people just couldn’t make those luxury things.
My late husband and I are both local people, born in this district. In fact my late husband was born at Kingwood Farm which was where the sanatorium was later built all around the farm.
I hope you don’t mind me writing this letter but reading Peppard News sent me down ‘Memory Lane’.
Yours sincerely,
Sheila Hayward
